ABOUT DARYL HALL: http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/about.html

Daryl Hall has had the great good fortune, in his own words, of "being in the right place at the right time" for what has turned out a rich and varied career. He has worked with virtually all of the great musicians of modern popular music as well as entering into new relationships with the best of the latest generation of artists. Starting his career as a teenager on the streets of Philadelphia, he quickly formed creative affiliations with such artists as Smokey Robinson, the Temptations and many other top soul singers of the 60s. He began his recording career with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, working as both an artist and session musician. In 1972, he formed a partnership with childhood friend John Oates and embarked on a 30-odd year creative journey. In addition to his work with Oates, he has made music as a solo artist, first recording with Robert Fripp in the late 70s, producing the much-acclaimed Sacred Songs as well as working on Fripp's critically praised Exposure. From the mid-'70s to the mid-'80s, Daryl and John would score six #1 singles, including "Rich Girl" (also #1 R&B), "Kiss on My List," "Private Eyes," "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) (also #1 R&B), "Maneater" and "Out of Touch" from their six consecutive multi-platinum albums'76's Bigger Than Both of Us, '80's Voices, '81's Private Eyes, 82's H2O, 83's Rock N Soul, Part I and 84's Big Bam Boom. The era would also produce an additional 5 Top 10 singles, "Sara Smile," "One on One," "You Make My Dreams," "Say It Isn't So" and "Method of Modern Love." Daryl also wrote the H&O single "Everytime You Go Away," which singer Paul Young scored a number-one hit with a cover of the song in 1985. That same year, Daryl and John, participated in the historic "We Are the World" session as well as closing the Live Aid show in Philadelphia. In 1986, Daryl made an album with Dave Stewart, Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, which spawned two top ten hits. By 1987, the R.I.A.A. recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the NUMBER-ONE SELLING DUO in music history, a record they still hold today. Daryl has recorded such solo works as Soul Alone in 1993 and Can't Stop Dreaming in 2003, both of which were well received with international critical acclaim. Daryl is currently in the studio recording a solo album for Verve Records, which is set to be released Spring 2011.

Jose Feliciano joins Daryl Hall on the next LFDH Epidsode #37

12.08.2010
DARYL HALL AND JOSE FELICIANO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH A CHRISTMAS-THEMED 37th EDITION OF LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE
Tis the season to be jolly, and there's no more joyful way to greet the holidays than with Daryl Hall and Latin music legend Jose Feliciano, who join together for a special holiday edition in the 37th installment of the award-winning Live from Daryl's House web show.

The Puerto Rican-born, eight-time Grammy winner first exploded onto the pop music scene 40 years ago, earning Best New Artist and Best Pop Song of the Year at the 1969 ceremony for his hit version of The Doors' "Light My Life," which he performs with Daryl Hall on the latest Live from Daryl's House web show, premiering Dec. 15 exclusively at www.lfdh.com.

"It was an amazing experience to hang out with such a talented individual as Daryl Hall," said Feliciano about his Live from Daryl's House appearance. "Not only that, but his wonderful personality goes with his great talent."

The latest edition of the web show includes versions of the traditional 19th century poem and Christmas carol, "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," most recently recorded by Daryl Hall and John Oates for their 2006 album, Home for Christmas, where it hit #1 on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. "Jingle Bell Rock" was also covered on the same release, while "Feliz Navidad," also included in the seven-song set, was a Top 20 AC hit for Feliciano in both 1998 and 2000. The set is rounded out with seasonal standards like "Little Drummer Boy" and "Christmas Must Be Tonight" (also on Home For Christmas) as well as covers of "Light My Fire" and James Taylor's "Fire and Rain," which Feliciano recorded for his most recent album, The Genius of Jose Feliciano Vol. II, produced by his partner of 20 years, percussionist Bob Conti, available on line at thegeniusofjosefeliciano.com.

Added Daryl: "I've always been a great admirer of Jose's talent, and this opportunity to perform with him on Live From Daryl's House was a real treat, particularly at this time of year when we can collaborate on some classic holiday songs in a warm, home setting. It's our own season's greetings and gift to our fans."

The past 15 months have marked a steady stream of superlatives and recognition for Live from Daryl's House, with Hall receiving a Webby Award for Best Variety series from more than 10,000 entries at the 14th annual ceremony. That same month, Daryl took part in a special set with former show guests Chromeo at Bonnaroo.

The 36 previous episodes of Live From Daryl's House have featured a mix of well-known performers like matchbox twenty's Rob Thomas, Train's Pat Monahan and Jimmy Stafford, Smokey Robinson, The Doors' Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Toots Hibbert, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy and Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump along with newcomers such as Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind- up Records' Chicago rock band Company of Thieves, Bay Area tunesmith Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA's rising Parachute, Chicago rock band Plain White T's, Boston bluesman Eli "Paperboy" Reed, soul diva Sharon Jones, highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch, L.A. neo-R&B party band Fitz & the Tantrums and hot new Provo, UT band Neon Trees.

Daryl launched the free monthly web show in November 2007 after having the light-bulb idea of "playing with my friends and putting it up on the Internet," and the show has since garnered acclaim from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music and influential blogger Bob Lefsetz, who have cited Live From Daryl's House as a perfect example of a veteran artist reinventing himself in the digital age by collaborating with both established and newer performers.

NEW YORK, Aug. 12, 2010—Wonder what it would be like to see Train’s Pat Monahan and guitarist Jimmy Stafford join Daryl Hall to perform their platinum single, “Hey, Soul Sister”? The only place it’s available is on the latest installment ofLive From Daryl’s House, where the song is one of the highlights on the Webby Award-winning series’ 33rd episode, which debuts Aug. 15 at www.lfdh.com. Added Stafford: “We have been touring non-stop, and on a rare day off, were invited to tape Live at Daryl’s House, which turned into my favorite ‘day off’ event ever. Hanging out, playing music, eating and drinking wine with Daryl, his band and Mick Rock was something I will never forget. Thanks for inviting us into your home, Daryl.”

“What a kick it was to perform with Pat and Jimmy from Train,” said Daryl. “When you watch the episode, you can see that we just hit it off right away.”

Live From Daryl's House episode #32 to feature the best of the guests from the past year

http://wolfsonent.com/Site/PRESS_RELEASES/Entries/2010/7/14_LIVE_FROM_DARYLS_HOUSE_32__BEST_OF_THE_PAST_YEAR_RETROSPECTIVE.html?sms_ss=facebook

From Legends like Smokey Robinson, Toots Hibbert and Todd Rundgren, to Newcomers Diane Birch and Eli “Paperboy” Reed, with a Special Tribute to T-Bone Wolk
NEW YORK, July 14, 2010—In just its third year, Daryl Hall’s monthly web show Live from Daryl’s House has turned into a showcase for both legendary artists and newcomers alike, a place where they can collaborate in an atmosphere of mutual admiration and respect. This month’s edition of the Webby Award-winning series, starting July 15 at www.lfdh.com, will feature a second annual retrospective of the past year’s best performances. “Some of my favorite things, favorite songs, favorite foods and favorite people are represented in this retrospective,” says Daryl. Throughout the retrospective, Daryl also provides the narration.

The highlights include a medley with legendary Motown singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson, a live concert in Jamaica accompanied by reggae icon Toots Hibbert, a session alongside old Philly soulmate Todd Rundgren, a collaboration with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, as well as episodes touting newcomers such as promising tunesmith Diane Birch, emerging country star Jimmy Wayne and Boston bluesman Eli Paperboy Reed. The episode’s emotional peak comes with a tribute to T-Bone Wolk, the longtime musical director for Daryl Hall and John Oates, playing the appropriate “I Miss You.”

“Looking back, it was quite a year for Live from Daryl’s House,” adds Daryl. “From the emotional highs of performing with one of my all-time idols in Smokey Robinson and jamming in Jamaica with the great Toots of Toots and the Maytals, to dealing with the untimely death of my dear friend T-Bone. As always, music provided the best outlet for channeling those emotions.”

This episode features Daryl and Smokey Robinson performing a medley that includes the Daryl Hall penned “Sara Smile” segueing into the Miracles’ “Ooh Baby Baby,” cementing his roots in Motown soul, which can be heard in his duet with Fall Out Boy lead singer—and giant H&O fan—Patrick Stump on the Jimmy Ruffin classic, “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted.” His performance of Toots and the Maytals’ “Reggae Got Soul” with Toots himself in Jamaica is another standout, while Daryl joins fellow City of Brotherly Love native Todd Rundgren on “The Want of a Nail.” He also joins up-and-comers Diane Birch (“Daydreaming”), Eli Paperboy Reed (“Pick a Number”) and Jimmy Wayne (“Kerosene Kid”) on songs of their own.

Past episodes of Live From Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like matchbox twenty’s Rob Thomas, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall and Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy, along with newcomers such as pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA’s rising Parachute and Chicago rock band Plain White T’s.

Daryl started the free monthly webcast in November 2007 after having the idea of “playing with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has since garnered acclaim from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music and influential blogger Bob Lefsetz, who have cited Live From Daryl’s House as a perfect example of a veteran artist reinventing himself in the digital age by collaborating with both established colleagues and newer performers.

PRESS RELEASE: DARYL HALL AND JOHN OATES PROVE KINGS OF ALL MEDIA, WITH TV, MOVIES, LIVE AND INTERNET APPEARANCES

Best-Selling Pop-Rock Duo of All Time Make their Mark on American Idol, Summer Tours, Webcasts, Real Estate, Print and More

Daryl Hall and John Oates continue to make their dreams come true. The accolades, awards and accomplishments keep on coming for the best-selling pop-rock duo in history, with no end in sight, as the two continue to add to their historic legacy.

With their popularity once again growing among fans both young and old, the pair recently appeared on the finale of Fox's hit show American Idol after the finalists performed a medley of Hall and Oates standards "I Can't Go for That" and "Maneater," followed by Daryl and John's version of "You Make My Dreams," the same song Joseph Gordon-Levitt sang in a memorable scene from the hit movie (500) Days of Summer.

Digital downloads increased a whopping 188% after the performance.

In the midst of an otherwise desultory summer touring season, Daryl and John continue to do turn-away business, with several sold-out shows in May and June. In addition, Daryl will appear with Canadian techno band Chromeo for a special midnight set at Bonnaroo that brings an episode of Hall's award-winning Live From Daryl's House web show, where the group first appeared, to the stage of the renowned Tennessee festival on June 11.

"You have to feel good about all these younger musicians who cite us as influences," says Daryl. "This is just my way of returning the favor."

The 31st and latest installment of the series will debut June 15 featuring matchbox twenty's Rob Thomas at www.lfdh.com. The program won the prestigious Webby award for Best Variety Series, beating out more than 10,000 entries.

Music isn't all that Daryl has been up to, either. A devoted restorer of historic homes, Daryl combined two 18th century structures into a single manor in Dutchess County, about 100 miles north of New York City, which was prominently featured in a recent Wall Street Journal article. Hall put the estate, dubbed Flint Hill, on the market for almost $12 million after working with antique dealers, historians and contractors to build the 24-room manor house with expansive views of the Catskills and Litchfield.

In addition, there will be an upcoming profile of Daryl in New York magazine later this month, as well as a newly edited Daryl Hall and John Oates Behind the Music on VH1 this fall.

As LL Cool J once put it: "Don't call it a comeback," because Daryl Hall and John Oates "have been here for years." And, they're as popular as ever.

Whole Notes - April 19, 2010

Spring has sprung and thank heavens for that! Here in New England we are still drying out from all of the rain we've had. I hope that everyone is getting to enjoy
some good weather. Well, this is the first newsletter since T-Bone's passing...he is so sorely missed, I still can't believe he is gone. I hope everyone got a chance to catch the latest Live From Daryl's House last week. It was a wonderful show and great to see the entire band having a fab time. Looking back, I am certain the fellas are glad to have the memory of their last performance with T-Bone saved forever.

I know some folks out there were able to make it the the show in Austin, TX on March 27th....being the first show with the new lineup I know they were glad to see some familiar faces in the audience. The tour officially kicks off on April 24th in Atlanta, GA at the Chastain Park Amphitheater. Todd Rundgren will join the guys for that gig...a special treat for sure!! Well, enough of my editorial garble...let's get on with the show!!

John Oates at The Aspen Songwriters Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Music Legend John Oates and The Wheeler Opera House

Team Up For

7908’ THE ASPEN SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL

SEPTEMBER 16-19, 2010

ASPEN—April 12, 2010--Singer and songwriter John Oates will host the city’s first annual songwriters festival at the Wheeler Opera House, as well as the Belly Up Aspen club and other local venues in the historic artists’ haven of Aspen, Colorado. 7,908 feet is Aspen’s altitude.

Produced by the City of Aspen with Oates aboard as executive producer, the event will feature world renowned headlining artists, alongside famous and emerging new songwriters from all musical styles to perform their favorite works for the city’s residents and visiting music lovers. Such collaborations are certain to yield some memorable performances and behind-the-scenes stories as well.

As half the legendary duo Hall & Oates and member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Oates contributes both stature and insight to the Festival. “I’m inviting songwriters from all genres,” he says, “and asking them, ‘Who have you always wanted to play with but haven’t?’ Then we’ll see what happens. There has been a tremendous response to that question. I think it will result in some really spectacular collaborations and performances. We’re also at a significant inflection point in the world of songwriting where there are these exciting cross-currents taking place between generations. We want to encourage and nurture this aspect and provide a destination where this evolution can flourish.”

Working with Oates to make 7908’ THE ASPEN SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL spectacular are the management and staff of Aspen’s 1889-vintage theater, the Wheeler Opera House. Last year, Oates and the Wheeler staged a three-part singer-songwriter series called “The Stories Behind The Songs.” “That was a great first collaboration,” says Wheeler Executive Director Gram Slaton, “and John had a lot of ideas afterwards that he wanted to explore for something bigger and better. So this festival concept seems like a logical expansion of that original songwriter series.”

A long-time resident of Aspen, Oates determined from the outset that the 2010 event wouldn’t be just another music festival. “The City of Aspen has a great tradition of bringing together the best and the brightest minds and souls in the world to be inspired, share their idea and create in one of the most beautiful places on earth,” Oates explains. “My thought was to expand that vision, to create a festival that would celebrate songwriting in its purest form—the writers, their words and their music. This is not about bands and big productions but rather an opportunity for the public to see and hear these amazingly talented songwriters in an intimate setting with high quality acoustics. It all starts with a song and we will celebrate that.”

Founded as a mining town in the late 1870s, Aspen has long been known for nourishing the arts. Starting with the Aspen Music Festival in 1949, the city has become a gathering place for musicians who have an abiding respect for nature and a sincere appreciation of each other’s talents. Musician-writers from John Denver to Burt Bacharach have staked out turf there, as have various members of The Eagles, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Joe Cocker, and many others.

“What we want to do with the Festival,” says Slaton, “is grow yet another branch on the creative aspen tree, and I can’t imagine a better partner to work with in this than John. He is so committed to every kind of music, and encouraging new songwriting talent is a real passion for him. He has originated an ongoing student songwriting competition among kids in the Roaring Fork Valley and has been jamming with everyone who comes to town from The Neville Brothers, Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas to Blues Traveler and Donovan Frankenreiter. His energy is truly infectious and a wonder of nature. I think we’re going to knock this Festival out of the park its very first year.”

For more information on 7908’ THE ASPEN SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL please call Wheeler Opera House Executive Director Gram Slaton at 970-920-5790 or email him at gram.slaton@ci.aspen.co.us.

Tom "T-Bone" Wolk passes away

It is with deep regret that Kerri and I inform you that T-Bone has passed away. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to T-Bones family and friends, the Hall and Oates Families and all their fans!
RIP T-Bone!

Official Statement From Dary Hall and John Oates About the Passing of Tom "T-Bone" Wolk

Daryl Hall:

To say that I am shocked is the ultimate understatement. T-Bone was my musical brother and losing him is like losing my right hand. It's not if I will go on, but how. T-Bone was one of the most sensitive and good human beings that I have ever known. And, I can truly say that I loved him.

John Oates:

His character was pure and his unique and quirky personality touched everyone he encountered. His musical sensibility was peerless, any instrument that he touched resonated with a sensitivity and skill level that I have never experienced while playing with any other musician. He possessed an encylopedic knowledge of styles and musical history which he referenced to support all the artists that he played with over the years. He became our band's musical directer over time leading by example and by the difference and respect that everyone who played alongside him so rightfully accorded him. he made everyone he played with better. so many times when I'm working on a musical passage or part, I think to myself: "How would T-Bone play this" and aspire to his level every time I perform. to this day I always keep oneof the "I Love Vermont" guitar picks with me where ever I go and know in my heart that starting today the Heavenly Band just got one of the greatest multi-instrumentalist of all time and that band will from this day forward sound better than they every have before.

There is a very nice T-Bone photo gallery on the Official Board if anyone cares to look.

Toots Hibbert with Daryl Hall on this months Live From Daryl's House

LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE TRAVELS TO JAMAICA FOR 28th EDITION OF GROUNDBREAKING WEB SERIES FEATURING LEGENDARY TOOTS & THE MAYTALS

Daryl Hall and Toots Hibbert Sing “Funky Kingston,”“Sweet and Dandy,” “Time Tough,” “Reggae Got Soul” and H&O’s “You Make My Dreams Come True”

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2010—Daryl Hall took his groundbreaking web series to sunny Jamaica this month, where he hooked up with legendary reggae group Toots and the Maytals for the 28th and most recent edition of Live From Daryl’s House, available starting Feb. 15 at www.lfdh.com.

The shoot took place at the home of famed reggae DJ “Native” Wayne Jobson in Ocho Rios, where Daryl and Toots Hibbert teamed on an incredible eight-song set that featured Toots and the Maytals classics like “Time Tough,” “Reggae Got Soul,” “Funky Kingston,” “Sweet and Dandy,” “Dog War,” “Monkey Man” and “54-46 Was My Number,” a song Toots wrote after serving a prison sentence for marijuana possession in the mid-‘60s, along with a rock steady take on Hall and Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True,” recently popularized by its use in the film (500) Days of Summer. As on all episodes, there was a chef preparing food for everyone, in this case, Suzanne Couch, who joins Daryl and Toots for “Sweet and Dandy.”

Said Toots about his experience: "I had a great time hanging out with Daryl at Native Wayne’s amazing house in the hills of St. Ann. It was a pleasure working with him and jamming with the band along with my son Hopeton on bass and Suzanne on backing vocals. The jam session was so tight we could have played music all night. I am looking forward to him returning to Jamaica soon. May all his dreams come true.”

Frederick “Toots” Hibbert grew up singing gospel in the church choir, moving to Kingston, Jamaica, when he was 13, where he eventually formed the Maytals, who recorded for legendary Studio One producer Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, accompanied by the famed studio band the Skatalites. The band went on to work with Prince Buster, Byron Lee and Leslie Kong. The group had a pair of songs—“Sweet and Dandy” and “Pressure Drop”—on the soundtrack to the Jimmy Cliff-starring movieThe Harder They Come, which popularized the music in the U.S. and around the world.

Daryl raved about the experience: “To be able to perform with one of reggae’s enduring legends in his homeland was certainly a memorable musical experience. Magical collaborations like this are why I started Live From Daryl’s House.”

On June 11, look for Daryl to perform with former Live From Daryl’s House guests Chromeo at Bonnaroo, where he’ll be taking the webcast experience to the live masses at the famed Tennessee festival.

Past episodes of Live From Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett, the Bacon Brothers and country star Jimmy Wayne, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville,VA’s rising Parachute, Chicago rock band Plain White T’s, Boston bluesman Jimmy “Paperboy” Reed and highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch.

Daryl started the free monthly webcast in late 2007 after having the idea of “playing with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has since garnered acclaim from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music and influential blogger Bob Lefsetz, who have cited Live From Daryl’s House as a perfect example of a veteran artist reinventing himself in the digital age by collaborating with both established colleagues and newer performers.

First J-Stache game to hit iTunes store at end of January

The Truth About J-Stache

January 13, 2010 in Uncategorized

Hello out there oh you scavengers of the information age!

Just wanted to take a moment out of our busy-busy day to tell you a bit more about our first game that is targeted to hit the itunes store at the end of this month!

Based upon our good pal and everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic mustache J-Stache, The iphone/ipod touch game is called Run J-Stache, Run. It’s a prequel to the animated trailer that you’ve probably all seen online and in the game you’ll be busting J-Stache out of rehab to reunite him with John Oates through many levels of Puzzle-Action gameplay.

You control J-Stache through a series of physics-based puzzle levels. You swipe the Stache towards each level’s exit; banking off of walls, collecting Rock n’ Soul cassette-tapes, using turntables to get taken for a spin and busting through breakable walls.

Hello out there oh you scavengers of the information age!

Players have 5 swipes to make it clear to the exit of each level and collect the 3 tapes and although the tapes aren’t necessary to reach the next level they will unlock lots of fun content like new Staches (each with their own physics/properties), new music tracks and more

Speaking of music, we’re also really proud to be involved with the amazing Horse Robot who provided all the BGM for our game. It’s really amazing stuff; amazeballs, I would even venture to say…

There are 16 unlockable loops that seem to tow the musical line between so many genres that we had to create a new one just for the tracks; we call it, Surrealist-80’s-Robo-Hop and it should cause you to soil your pants with delight…

Expect a free track or two on our blog sometime in the next week so you all can have a small taste of the awesome to come.

Speaking of the awesome to come; we’ve also got three substantial updates to the game already planned and in the works. Expect more levels, more Staches and more puzzle-action in the weeks following the initial release of the game. In the meantime, we’ll leave you with another screenshot to whet your appetite.

Tell your friends, tell your mamas and your papas; hell, just let everyone you know, Run J-Stache, Run is on the way!!!

Filming will take place on January 26th & 27th just before D & J are scheduled to perform at the Jazz Fest as the closing act on January 30th.

JOHN @ 30A SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL - JO will be performing at the first annual '30A Songwriters Festival' later this week in Florida. The festival takes place from January 15th - 17th in a number of towns that make up Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast. The festival will feature performances by over 50 singer/songwriters including LoCash Cowboys, Susana Hoffs and Matthew Sweet just to name a few. Hall & Oates to film TV show in Jamaica

Hall & Oates to film TV show with Toots and Suzanne Couch

By Basil Walters Observer staff reporter

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Ahead of their closing night headline appearance on Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, international renowned pop duo, Hall and Oates will be filming a television show at a great house in the hills of St Ann in the vicinity of Nine Miles.

The music duo comprising Daryl Hall and John Oates, will have as their guest in the film Jamaica's international reggae pioneer Toots Hibbert and songstress, pianist, songwriter Suzanne Couch. Another noted Jamaican musician turned broadcaster, Wayne Jobson of Native fame, will be involved in the production of the television show to be filmed on January 26 and 27.

"Daryl (Hall) is especially coming to have Toots as his guest, as he is a huge fan of Toots," Jobson told the Sunday Observer via email. "It should be magic to have two of the greatest voices on earth together, Toots and Daryl. He is coming to Jamaica to record the TV show just before Hall and Oates headline the closing night of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival," Jobson added.

Hall and Oates is recognised as one of the most successful duos, with 34 hit singles over a period of 37 years. The duo also has a nomination in this year's Grammy Award. They first came to Jamaica in 1974 and jammed with the late great Joe Higgs at the old Chela Bay Hotel in Ocho Rios. They liked the Jamaican hit Soldering by the Starlights so much that they later recorded it on their hit album, Daryl Hall and John Oates which contained their signature classic, Sara Smile.

Thirty six years later, the duo -- who in the interim visited Jamaica on holidays -- is happy to be back on the rock to their first major performance at the Jazz and Blues Festival as well as to film their television show.

The act which achieved its greatest fame in the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s, specialises in a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues styles, which they dubbed rock and soul.

Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine & J. Scott McClintock wrote, "at their best, (Hall & Oates') songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies that adhered to soul traditions without being a slave to them by incorporating elements of new wave and hard rock."

Much of their soul influence came from known African-American soul, and blues artistes who helped develop a significant amount of their music, as well as often touring and performing with them. Their "bluesy" influence can also be attributed to being exposed to early blues, jazz, r&b, and soul genres at an earlier period in their lives.

In 2002, their hit song Out of Touch was used for the soundtrack in the successful video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, playing on the pop radio station Flash FM. In 2006, their song Family Man was used for the soundtrack for its prequel, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, once again playing on Flash FM.

The song, Rich Girl, was played in an episode of television's cop series Hunter. In the episode, a 'rich girl' commits the 'perfect crime' but in the end cannot profit from it because all her family money can only be hers when the 'killer' is apprehended. With no options left, she commits suicide eating yogurt and sleeping pills with the song Rich Girl playing.

Rich Girl was also in an episode of the FX series The Shield, sung briefly by one of the characters in Season 2.

According to Daryl Hall, I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) helped inspire the song Billie Jean.

"Michael Jackson once said directly to me that he hoped I didn't mind that he copied that groove (from I Can't Go for That). That's okay; it's something we all do. Eddie Van Halen told me that he copied the synth part from Kiss on My List and used it in Jump. I don't have a problem with that at all."
