Happy New Year to all our Hall and Oates Forever fans!

Kerri and I would like to take a moment to wish all our followers a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Thanks for making the first year of our HOF Blog a ton of fun for us!

Along with a brand New Year is coming a brand new look! Over the next few weeks I will be trying out new features, and taking out some of the ones that don't seem to be doing well.

As always, our Message Board is open to anyone who wants to use it. You do need to sign up first to use it:
Hall and Oates Forever Discussion Board

In order to keep our fans happy, Kerri and I are always asking for ideas and suggestions. Please feel free to drop Ker or I a line and let us know what you would like to see more of, less of, or just say Hi and let us know where you are from, and how you found us! We are open to all kinds of ideas, and while we can't always use your ideas right away, we do keep them on the back burner for possible future use!

With that being said, have a safe New Year and lets hope to see more touring from D&J in 2010, Daryls solo album that he has been promising, and Johns new solo album that he promised us! Rock on guys!

Peace!

Whole Notes Extra!!

Happy Holidays kids!!! I hope everyone is staying nice and warm!! Did Santa bring you everything your heart desires? Hope so! There's a bunch of stuff going on in H&O-land this week!! Lot's of updates! So let's get started!!

ELIOT LEWIS - Eliot will be performing his second NYC show this evening!! Check out this amazing Rock 'N Soul show @ Prohibition located at 503 Columbus Ave, NYC, NY. There is no cover and the show starts at 9:30 PM. I hear tell that Mr. Lewis has some hot new tunes in his bag of tricks!! So, get out there and support our H&O musicians!! Make sure you tell 'em Hall & Oates Forever sent ya!!

JOHN OATES - JO has just recently announced that he will be performing at the first annual '30A Songwriters Festival'. The festival takes place from January 15th - 17th in a number of towns that make up Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast. The festival will feature performances by over 50 singer/songwriters including LoCash Cowboys, Susana Hoffs and Matthew Sweet just to name a few. Check out John's website for the most up to date info on gig locations and times!

ZEV KATZ - Our very own H&O low tone provider was spotted on TV Tuesday evening. For what you ask?! Zev was seen playing bass on the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors show which was aired on CBS. This is the second year Zev has been a part of the annual event.

LFDH - For all of you LFDH fans out there (I mean...who isn't?!?)...the next LFDH will presumably feature Eli "Paperboy" Reed, a Boston musician whom I am quite fond of. Check out some of his stuff here on YouTube before January 15th to get you in the mood!

POSSESSION OBSESSION - How many of you out there are H&O memorabilia collectors? Or, maybe you collect Hall & Oates audio or video instead? Whatever H&O "ooh yeah" item might be...remember on the HOF Message Board there is a 'Wish List' thread where traders can visit to post their want lists, trade lists, or even items that you may no longer want. If you're already an HOF member click here to visit the wish list. Not a member yet?? What are you waiting for?? Click here to sign up!

WOLFGANG'S VAULT - For those of you that LOVE H&O audio 'stuff', Wolfgang's Vault has some awesome live concerts, previously 'listen-only' shows, now available for purchase and download. Each of the eight shows is $9.98 and range in length from 56 minutes up to 1.5 hours. If you can only get one or two of these gems my suggestions would be the 1982 Hampton Coliseum show if only for the stellar version of Sara Smile and the 1978 Pittsburgh Civic Center gig which is PACKED with rarities! And the beauty of it all...you can listen before you buy! Brilliant!

OK...I think that does it for the updates today! On behalf of Charlene, I'd like to wish you all a safe and happy New Year.

H&O Good Shoppers....Good "HO"liday Shoppers!!

OK so this is a bit of a blast from the past. This funny little clipping is from Music Life magazine (a Japanese publication) circa 1983/1984. As you can see the guys including John, Daryl and G.E. are out and about doing some shopping and sightseeing in Japan. Are they are shopping for the holidays?? Ooh look, is that Brian Doyle I see on the bottom right? In the middle there it looks like D is browsing in a camera shop. Is that OATES-meal John is buying? Wonder what gifties D&J are picking up for their friends & fam THIS year!!

Click on the picture above for a better view of H&O's shopping spree!!

Jimmy Wayne will the the guest on the next Live From Daryl's House 12/15!

12.07.09
LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE FINDS COUNTRY COMFORT WITH NASHVILLE STAR JIMMY WAYNE, DEBUTING DEC. 15 AS DARYL AND JOHN CELEBRATE GRAM
Daryl Hall and Wayne recreate their hit country version of “Sara Smile” and a cover of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood” for 26th and latest edition of groundbreaking web series

NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2009—Country star Jimmy Wayne’s cover version of Daryl Hall and John Oates’ 1976 hit single, “Sara Smile,” which he recorded with the duo earlier this year, is a country smash, and now serves as the centerpiece for the 26th installment of the acclaimed web series, Live From Daryl’s House, available starting Dec. 15 at www.lfdh.com. The show will be the first since Daryl Hall and John Oates received their first Grammy nomination in 25 years with a nod in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “Sara Smile,” from their Live at the Troubadour album on Shout! Factory.

“My experience playing with Daryl on Live From Daryl’s House will go down in my journal as one of my all-time favorite performances, right up there with the Grand Ole Opry, Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks,” said the North Carolina-born singer-songwriter.

Wayne released his self-titled debut in 2003 on DreamWorks Nashville, which went Top 10 country and cracked the Top 100 pop, followed by 2008’s Do You Believe Me Now on the Valory Music Group label, where it peaked at 4 Country and 27 on the Pop chart. His latest album, Sara Smile, hit retail last month, with the title track his seventh Top 40 country single, as well as Daryl Hall and John Oates’ first-ever Top 40 country hit.

Featured in Wayne and Daryl’s seven-song set are versions of “Sara Smile” and “Someone Like You,” a track from Hall’s 1986 solo album, Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, along with a cover of Eddie Floyd’s classic “Knock on Wood.” There are also four Wayne originals, including his 1 Country hit, “Do You Believe Me Now,” “Kerosene Kid,” “I’ll Never Leave You” and “I Didn’t Come Here to Lose.”

Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett and the Bacon Brothers, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA’s rising Parachute, Chicago rock band Plain White T’s and highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch.

Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied media outlets as Rolling Stone, Spin, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

THE CLEVELAND SHOW: Cleveland discovers a surprising secret about Donna's Auntie Momma that changes his impression of her forever in the all-new "A Brown Thanksgiving" episode of THE CLEVELAND SHOW airing Sunday, Nov. 22 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Daryl Hall and John Oats are the guest voices for this Sunday’s episode of The Cleveland Show and to hear creator, Mike Henry tell it, it’s a real shocker.

To begin with Henry says the rockers will play the good and bad angels on Cleveland’s shoulders. But, it’s why and how they’re advising him that gets things ramped up - in a probing sort of way.

Click onto media bar for exactly how Cleveland interacts with his two angels, Hall & Oats, on The Cleveland Show from Mike Henry.

Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy on next Live From Daryl's House

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseact...logID=517793669

LFDH Episode #25 with Patric Stump of Fall Out Boy Coming Up Nov 15th!
FALL OUT BOY’S PATRICK STUMP AND DARYL HALL GET THEIR GROOVE ON LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE NOV. 15

The two pair up for 25th installment of groundbreaking web series ....

Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump writes most of the music for his platinum-plus Chicago rock band, but he’s also a closet R&B/soul fan who has produced tracks for fellow Windy City rapper Lupe Fiasco, and is a longtime fan of Daryl Hall’s music, which makes him the perfect guest for the 25th and latest installment of Live From Daryl’s House, available starting Nov. 15 at www.lfdh.com. ....

.. ..

“As a musician, I can’t fathom a show more fun to play than Live From Daryl’s House,” says Stump about his experience playing with Daryl and his band, including T-Bone Wolk, on the web series.....

“Patrick Stump is one soulful vocalist,” says Daryl admiringly. “I was really impressed with his grasp of R&B and it turned out we shared a love for a great deal of the same music.”....

.. ..

As a producer, Stump has worked with such bands as Gym Class Heroes, whose vocalist Travis McCoy is also an unabashed Daryl Hall fan and a participant in a previous Live From Daryl’s House. Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman calls him “a musical genius, a mad scientist,” while noted producer/performer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds says, “Patrick is one of the hottest dudes I’ve seen in a long time… He’s got a great voice and a tremendous amount of talent.” Fall Out Boy’s fifth album, Folie a Deux, was released last December, producing the hit singles, “I Don’t Care” and “America’s Suitehearts.”....

.. ..

Stump puts that great voice straight to work, joining Daryl in a seven-song set highlighted by singles “Out of Touch” and “Guessing Games,” the latter from the H2O album. Among the Fall Out Boy songs Daryl and Patrick perform are versions of “I Don’t Care,” “What a Catch, Donny” and “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” along with a cover of Jimmy Ruffin’s soul classic, “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted.”....

.. ..

Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett and the Bacon Brothers, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA’s rising Parachute, Chicago rock band Plain White T’s and highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch.

Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied media outlets as Rolling Stone, Spin, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter. ....

Whole Notes Extra

Hey kids! I've been back from our Philly excursion for about a week and a half now and what a trip!! It was truly amazing! The Last Call at the Philly Spectrum was a BLAST! Here is a slide-show of pics from the event!

Click here to view these pictures larger

THE VILLAGE - No it's not a new thriller in theaters...technically the entire title of the new CD that features John Oates is called The Village: A Celebration of the Music of Greenwich Village. Released on 429 Records , this compilation includes 60's folk songs performed by contemporary artists such as John Oates, Los Lobos and Amos Lee. The album is available at Amazon for $11.99.

JOHN OATES NEXT SOLO - At his show in Lansdale, PA, John announced to fans, friends and family that his next solo effort will be released on 429 Records. After management at the label heard his song on The Village album they reportedly asked John if he'd be interested in recording his very own folk-style album. John's response: "Why, yes, yes I would!". If you are a long-time JO fan you know that his roots are steeped in folk music and he is a HUGE Doc Watson fan. John seems to be VERY excited about this album and I must say, as a fan, I am too!

LIVE FROM DARYL'S HOUSE - If you are like me, I impatiently wait every month for the next LFDH guest to be announced. To my surprise Daryl prematurely let the cat out of the bag at a recent Washington, D.C. show. Premiering on November 15th will be Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Patrick is a great vocalist and the band as a whole writes some super lyrics. Check out the Fall Out Boy website HERE . Fave tracks of mine include 'Sugar, We're Going Down" and 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me'.

Presumably December's guest will be Jimmy Wayne who is currently enjoying chart success with a cover of D&J's 'Sara Smile'. His album of the same name drops on November 23rd. Visit Jimmy's website HERE to listen to the track, view videos and pre-order the album.

Due to the closeness of the album's release date to November 15th (the next LFDH) it is entirely possible that Jimmy will be on in November and Patrick will get pushed to December. Either way, tune in to LFDH.com at 8PM EST on the 15th to find out!

TOUR DATES - Currently Hall & Oates have no official tour dates announced. John has a number of dates scheduled including some special Christmas shows with musician Jerry Douglas who has a brand spankin' new Christmas album. Check out John's website for the latest dates & times!

ELIOT LEWIS - Hall & Oates uber-talented keyboardist, Eliot Lewis, will be performing his one-man Rock 'n Soul show at the Kicking Horse Grill in Southport, CT on Friday, November 13th. I promise, you don't want to miss this kids!

MESSAGE BOARD HIGHLIGHTS - Check out the HOF MESSAGE BOARD for all of the latest Hall & Oates news and updates. Check out pictures, reviews and video from the recent shows at the 9:30 Club in D.C. as well as The Last Call at the Philly Spectrum! Hope to see you there!!

Mr. Walter Elmore of Turnkey Productions there explained that there will be performances at different hotels in and around Montego Bay. Some of the performers during this time will include Mr. John Secada, Mr. Priest, Mr. Roy Ayers, Mr. Joe Roy Jackson, Mr. Robin Banks and Mr. Richie Stephens. “We will bring the artiste to each venue where the audience is staying, so that way we create a hype and excitement in Montego Bay for the week,” said Mr. Elmore. “We will give our visitors one whole week of entertainment.” During the days, there will be events to accommodate cruise ship passengers.

The official airline sponsor, Air Jamaica, has been linked with Jamaica Jazz and Blues from its inception in 1996. Area Sales Manager, Ms. Norma Sale, looks at the festival as enlarging visitors enjoyment of the islands. “Our visitors yearn for experiences, as it is no longer just going someplace for a couple of days for the sun and beach. They need entertainment also. What the Jazz and Blues Festival has been able to deliver is one more compelling reason for our friends to visit the island,” she said.

Make your plans to enjoy our Jazz Festival and experience Jamaica. Stop by our Coldwell Banker office to discuss real estate opportunities while you are here.

Stay tuned for more details as Kerri and I get them in!

Hall and Oates has my vote!
Posted by Rach on October 20, 2009 | 381 Comments

Did you know Hall and Oates, one of the biggest pop rock duos in history has not yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??? I was surprised myself when they told me that recently on a taping of the Rachael Ray show. That’s why I want you to leave me a comment here and this will act as our petition to get these guys into the Hall of Fame. We’ll gather all of your kind words, and send this off to show just how much we support these guys.

So tell me why you love Hall and Oates and why you think they should join the likes of other excellent rockers. You can leave comments or even just your name if you don’t have much time. It all counts!

Diane Birch on the next Live From Daryl's House

For 24th episode of acclaimed web show, Birch and Hall will team up on songs from her debut Album, Bible Belt

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2009—Singer/songwriter Diane Birch’s passion for American music, which includes everything from the delta blues to Motown, California surf music, Top 40 pop and south Philly soul, mirrors the same eclectic influences that inspired Daryl Hall, so it seemed a natural pairing to put the two together for the 24th and latest installment of Live From Daryl’s House, available starting on Oct. 15 at www.lfdh.com.

Birch’s S-Curve Records debut, Bible Belt, was written entirely by Diane and recorded in New York and New Orleans, with Grammy-winning producers Steve Greenberg, soul legend Betty Wright and Michael Mangini at the helm.

Birch was born in Michigan, but moved to Zimbabwe with her South African-born parents, who were missionaries; migrating to South Africa and then Australia before returning to Portland, Oregon when she was a teenager. An extraordinarily accomplished keyboardist, whether on piano, Rhodes, Wurlitzer or Farfisa, Diane has been compared to fellow singer-songwriters Laura Nyro and Carole King, as well as Elton John and Jerry Lee Lewis. Rolling Stone calls her “Amy Winehouse-style retro pop, minus dysfunction…Her welterweight voice is strong and fetching.” The Huffington Post’s David Wild said: “I’ve just heard the future of singer-songwriters and her name is Diane Birch. Bible Belt is more than welcoming… it’s downright thrilling.”

“Diane has one of the best new female voices I’ve heard in quite a while,” said Daryl about the latest new artist to appear on Live From Daryl’s House. “She’s also a very evocative songwriter and kills on the Wurlitzer. We really had a blast.”

Diane and Daryl tackle a seven-song set that includes a pair of fairly deep Daryl Hall and John Oates album tracks in “Life’s Too Short,” from the 2003 album Do It For Love, while “Fall in Philadelphia” originally from the 1972 Atlantic debut, Whole Oates, and now available remastered on the 74 song box set DO WHAT YOU WANT BE WHAT YOU ARE, THE MUSIC OF DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES (RCA/LEGACY), which streets on October 13th . The two also perform four songs from Bible Belt, including “Fire Escape,” “Fools,” “Nothin’ But a Miracle” and “Don’t Wait Up.” Birch shows off her vocal range on her and Daryl’s soulful cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Daydreamin’.”

”I had to keep pinching myself, especially when Daryl started singing ‘Fire Escape,’” Diane enthuses about the experience. “It was a seriously surreal day and his whole crew could not have been cooler!”

Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett and the Bacon Brothers, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA’s rising Parachute and Chicago rock band Plain White T’s.

Recording artist, private pilot John Oates to perform at AOPA Summit

http://www.aopa.org/summit/news/2009/091008concert.html?WT.adv=adv2

By Julie Summers Walker

Recording artist John Oates, a private pilot, will present a live concert at AOPA Aviation Summit, which takes place Nov. 5 through 7 in Tampa, Fla. Oates started flying in 1985. “I was always intrigued by flying,” the singer says. Touring as the band Hall and Oates, Oates often sat in the jumpseat of the charter aircraft the band flew and he says, “stuck my nose in the cockpit and asked questions.”

His first flight training was in a friend’s Cessna 172. “I flew left seat and at the end of the flight I said, ‘sign me up.’” He eventually soloed in 10 hours and acquired a Piper Dakota. Later he purchased a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, which he used to fly to concerts along with an instructor.

Currently Oates lives in Colorado and although he and partner Daryl Hall still tour (Hall has a King Air 200), Oates is no longer flying. “I married a farmer’s daughter and we have a rescue farm. I miss the flying but not the responsibility—I was always a conscientious pilot.”

Because of his love of flight and in support of AOPA’s GA Serves America campaign, Oates will perform his new concert tour, 1000 Miles of Life, at a limited seating concert Friday, Nov. 6 at the Tampa Convention Center. As a special bonus, Oates will include an unique twist to his concert—“1000 Miles of Flight”—for his AOPA audience members. Hall and Oates recently released its new four-pack CDs and continue to tour and entertain audiences 20 years after their initial success.

For audience members who purchase a full ticket package, a special after-concert appearance of John Oates is included in the $85 ticket price—this includes private entrance to the Florida Aquarium, transportation from the aquarium to the convention center, Riverside buffet dinner, and the John Oates concert with complimentary John Oates 1000 Miles of Life CD.

Blaine Larson, one of country music’s hottest young and rising stars, with a hit single at No. 3 on the charts, will be the opening act for John Oates. Larson also is a passionate pilot and an AOPA member. He has produced continuous hits since the start of his career and has co-written songs with such music greats as country hall of fame legend George Straits.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Story Behind the Song is Famed Publisher's
First All-Celebrity Release
Christina Aguilera, Melissa Etheridge, Lamont Dozier, Paul Anka, Kanye West,
Richie Sambora, & other top songwriters tell entertainment veteran Jo-Ann
Geffen their inspiration and techniques

COS COB, Conn., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Musicians love to say that every song
tells a story, but they are usually tight-lipped about the story behind the
song. Was it really scribbled on a napkin? What love interest was the real
inspiration? If we knew the real story behind our favorite songs, would we
ever listen to them the same way again?

Chicken Soup for the Soul® has partnered with veteran Hollywood publicist,
talent manager, and celebrity booker Jo-Ann Geffen for the first all-celebrity
book from the top-selling brand. Geffen peels back the curtain on 101 songs,
songwriters, and artists with the upcoming release of Chicken Soup for the
Soul: The Story Behind the Song (Chicken Soup for the Soul, LLC, November 10,
2009, 978-1-935096-40-5, $14.95). Jo-Ann Geffen is credited as editor along
with Chicken Soup for the Soul co-founders Jack Canfield and Mark Victor
Hansen. The foreword is by Lamont Dozier, who is credited as an architect of
the Motown sound.

The book reflects on many of our favorite songs that trace our lives through
all genres of music. Some of those who tell their very personal stories
include hitmakers Richie Sambora, Christina Aguilera, Melissa Etheridge, John
Legend, the Backstreet Boys' Howie Dorough, Kanye West, Jewel and classic rock
performer/songwriters like Chicago's Robert Lamm, Foreigner's Mick Jones, and
Daryl Hall and John Oates; and alternative rockers Aaron Lewis of Staind and
Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Readers will learn the story behind pop classics by
Barry Manilow, Hal David, Diane Warren, and Paul Anka, rockers Jerry Cantrell
of Alice In Chains and Joan Jett, as well as from R&B songmasters including
Nathan Morris on the Boyz II Men/Mariah Carey hit "One Sweet Day," Walter
Orange of the Commodores, Smokey Robinson, and Earth Wind and Fire's Philip
Bailey and country singer/songwriters Tracy Lawrence, Ray Stevens, and Pam
Tillis.

Some bring laughter, others bring tears, but all are insightful and great
reading for music fans, aficionados or people who just like a good story. Each
of the tales is accompanied by a photo and the lyrics for the song that is
discussed.

Mustached Americans Urged to Vote Oates

This is a friendly reminder from those nice folks at The American Moustache Institute. Have you voted for John Oates today?

http://americanmustacheinstitute.org/cs/blogs/ami_2009/archive/2009/09/25/mustached-americans-urged-to-vote-oates.aspx

AMI 2009
Mustached Americans Urged to Vote Oates
As music legend John Oates prepares to reunite with his once graceful mustache on Oct. 30 in St. Louis when he plays 'Stache Bash 2009 at the Orpheum Theater, as a result of his outstanding new album "1000 Miles of Life," he is currently a finalist in the prestigious Nashville Music Awards (NMA) which recognize outstanding contributions in all genres of music.

Oates' new record is nominated in the category of "MADE IN MUSIC CITY AWARD," which acknowledges a recording made in Nashville by a non-Nashville artist (category #13), and it is clearly the top choice for people of Mustached American descent.

The 2009 NMA winners will be announced Wednesday, October 7 at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville. And until Sept. 30, YOU -- the 12.3 loyal readers of the American Mustache Institute blog -- can have a voice in who will will .

We ask that you "Vote Oates," while noting that to participate (VOTE HERE), you must vote for one artist in each category for your Oates vote to count. Keeping in mind, of course, that not only is his new album outstanding, but that he will graciously join the American Mustache Institute and its supporters at 'Stache Bash to support our event benefiting Challenger Baseball, a baseball league for childrena and adults with disabilities.

And hopefully you also join on on Oct. 30 for 'Stache Bash 2009 at the Orpheum Theater, where you'll have a chance to meet John and run your fingers through his well-coiffed hair.

Carry on.

429 RECORDS ASSEMBLES ALL STAR FOLK/ROCK PROJECT
“THE VILLAGE: A CELEBRATION OF THE MUSIC OF GREENWICH VILLAGE”

Lucinda Williams, Bruce Hornsby, Matt Nathanson, Shelby Lynne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rachael Yamagata, Los Lobos, Rickie Lee Jones, John Oates, Cowboy Junkies,
Rocco DeLuca and Others Record Heartfelt Musical Tribute To A Special Era—
The Village Of The ‘60’s

Musical Shout Out To A Treasured Scene Set For World Wide Release November 3

August 19, 2009, SANTA MONICA, CA: 429 Records has brought together a stellar roster of artist for a project titled “THE VILLAGE: A CELEBRATION OF THE MUSIC OF GREENWICH VILLAGE”—a musical homage to an influential scene that thrived during an incomparable era in the history of rock music. The Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City in the 1960’s was ground zero for a musical, political and social evolution-- McCarthy and the Red Scare era was over, the Vietnam War was simmering and poised to explode, and the civil rights movement was gaining steam just as singers like Peter Seeger, Bob Dylan and Odetta were hanging out and composing fierce and fearless songs that reflected the social conscience of a generation. The neighborhood was symbolic of a shared inspiration with artists worldwide gravitating to the vibrant streets and clubs and as such helped change the course of popular music. With THE VILLAGE, modern day artists look back and pay tribute to the artists and songs that helped nurture and shape them as successful musicians in their own right. Shelby Lynne gives a musical shout out to Dylan with her version of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” Cowboy Junkies perform their heartbreaking version of Tim Buckley’s “Once I Was” and Bruce Hornsby checks in with a stunning version of The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Darlin’ Be Home Soon.” THE VILLAGE: A CELEBRATION OF THE MUSIC OF GREENWICH VILLAGE will be released worldwide on November 3rd on 429 Records.

Says Susan Rotolo author of the recent bestseller “A Freewheelin’ Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties” and writer of THE VILLAGE liner notes: “The performers from that time, and the songs they wrote, made a notable contribution not only to the legend of Greenwich Village but also to music in general. No one who is young, making music and hanging out, thinks in historical terms, but the passage of time allows for such a perspective. Cultural history was made.”

Adds participating VILLAGE artist John Oates (of Hall & Oates): “Greenwich Village has meant a lot to me over the years. Not only did I live there for a long, long time, but many of my pop songs and the things that I did with Daryl Hall have been inspired by living in the village. It have a unique ambience and atmosphere—such a magical place!

”Says Steve Vining, President of the Savoy Label Group: “It’s been gratifying to pursue this project and find so many artists who felt compelled to be a part of THE VILLAGE because the music from that time had such a strong impact on them creatively and as individuals. It’s been a labor of love for all of us and we’re extremely proud of the result.”
